An Australian Getaway
Australia’s a fantastic country. We’ve just returned after an awesome trip. Here are some ideas to allow you to get the most out of a vacation, based on our experiences:
Fly directly into Melbourne for the cheapest air fare. It was the least expensive by more than $175 at the time we flew.
Aim to visit in their winter months, our summer, unless of course you’re only going for the surfing. Prices are only $100 cheaper then. In the south the thermometers are still close to 70 degrees, perfect for wandering about enjoying the scenery.
Make sure and use the tourist information centers, they possess all the info and directions for the area.
It’s hard to get by without hiring a car. Getting behind the wheel of a rental car is the best way to to travel in Australia. It?s simple and fast, and you?ll pay out so much less and be able to check out so much more. Here’s a few sample charges:
Car rental Melbourne (far South): $36 to $71 per day.
Car rental Gold Coast (close to Brisbane, the famous surf area): $34 to $60 per day.
Car hire Darwin (far North): $42 to $60 per day.
First priority after we got off the plane was the Melbourne car hire business. It took roughly fifteen minutes, and we were on the road. During our stay in Melbourne, we visited the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, about an hour?s trip from Melbourne, and each and every museum in the city, I think.
Next stop was a flight from Melbourne to Brisbane where we headed straight for the car rental Gold Coast. Then we drove all around the Gold Coast. There are loads of exceptional seafood restaurants and the scenery is second to none.
Reluctantly we left the Gold Coast and flew to Darwin. You guessed it! First thing’s first. See the people at car hire Darwin and then drive to Mindil Beach Sunset Market. Darwin’s a lot further north and the temperatures were much higher, in the 90’s, but it didn’t feel so hot due to the sea breezes. The car was a boon as waiting for a cab or bus in that heat would have been no fun.
I just can’t wait to go back. It was a marvelous trip but there really wasn’t time to fit everything in
