Praise for Shark in the Water and Travelling Like the Light
VV Brown is hoping for chart-popping success with her upcoming release, “Shark in the Water,” and many would agree that she has earned it. DJ Sway, who maintains an effervescent presence on the Google site Blogger, wrote in reference to the song: “It’s about time for VV Brown to have a hit. This should do it.”
The song is taken from her first album “travelling like the light” and though she may not be a household name (yet), VV has been making enough appearances to have caught the eyes and ears of a number of fans, which include big name news sources and the London fashion elite. A healthy amount of bloggers have also taken an active interest in the singer-songwriter-producer, posting her music videos and keeping readers updated on her legion of live shows.
“Singles ‘Leave!’ and ‘Crying Blood’ failed to register,” writes DJ Sway, “so now VV Brown is back with a single so infectious and instant it’ll be hard to imagine she’s not about to have her first Top 40 (or dare one dream, Top 10) hit?”
“Shark in the Water” is a song that features “a strumming guitar and shuffling beat,” and DJ Sway admits that when he first heard the song on the radio he thought it might be Natasha Beddingfield singing, though VV has “more power and range.”
The blogger gave the song a sterling review: “Catchy enough from the first note, the song really grabs you as the soaring chorus kicks in. Resist? Not a chance. I’ll be singing this all summer.”
To VV, this song is about anxiety. She told Digital Spy, “I guess I’m trying to create a new phrase. When something’s not quite right or there’s some kind of problem, you might say, ‘Maybe there’s a shark in the water.’ The video expresses anxiety in a relationship situation, but generally I’d like the song to be a bit more ambiguous. It could be anxiety about anything.”
