There are many different types of HDTVs on shops today. The truth is that any of them are perfect. Sometimes a buyer may feel overwhelmed with the many models that may be available in stores or online. Every technology in the world of HDTV televisions is different that the others and every single one of them has its own pros and cons. There is no definitive choice as to which one is betterbut there are some trends. For example, people who like to play video games tend to prefer LCDs while people that like to watch movies tend to prefer Plasma screens or DLP projectors.

Plasma is one of the oldest HDTV technologies. HDTV televisions with Plasma displays were very abundant during HDTV’s first years. Plasma Tvs project warm beautiful colors and dark blacks. Dark blacks translate into high contrast and very defined images. They also have very fast refresh rates. Older models did had a short lifespan and were prone to image burn in. In a sense, Plasma HDTVs have the better image quality than other sets but lose screen brightness as they get older. They also require more energy to operate.

LCDs are very light compared to Plasmas. They put on less weight on the electric bill. When it comes to image quality, colors on LCD sets are very bright and vivid. However, when it comes to black colors they lack the solidness of Plasmas blacks. Although, in recent times manufacturers have worked a lot to create models that can display dark blacks to help enhance the overall quality of the image. Refresh rates vary greatly from set to set Be sure to read reviews since the performance of these high definition Tvs varies from model to model.

The other technology worth mentioning is DLP. As of now most of the time DLP is associated with rear projectors. While their image quality is lower if you compare them to Plasmas and LCDs they are very budget friendly to those that are looking to create a home movie theater or just prefer a rear projector. They do suffer from low contrast however.

These are the most important technologies in the HDTV world as of now. Which one is the best? Well, the answer is more depending on what are you actually looking for. Are you planing to build your own movie theater or are you just looking for an affordable solution for you home?
