Exploring the Mystery of Aromatherapy Through Biotechnology

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 3:25 am on Monday, January 19, 2009

Aromatherapy originated in Ancient Egypt. About a hundred years ago, a pharmacist from France used an innovative method which led to a breakthrough in aromatherapy techniques. In recent years, under the strong promotion by Sathelyne Group, Bel’Air aromatherapy came into being to benefit many consumers.

For centuries, people have experienced and have come to recognise that essential oils have many benefits. Essential oils can help to combat bacteria and other diseases, repel mosquitoes, prevent tooth decay, fight oxidisation, inflammation and even enhance the immune system, calm nerves, etc.

But with so many types of essential oils around, which essential oils will benefit you? Which are the safest? These are questions that researchers are still unable to answer exactly.

Since 2002 when Bel’Air set up our factory in France, there has been interest in testing the safety and effectiveness of our essential oils. With these concerns in mind, Bel’Air worked closely with professor Tsai from Taiwan National Yang Ming University in setting up our very own Bel’Air Bio-tech Research Centre. Professor Tsai Ying Chieh is head of Taiwan National Yang Ming Biotechnology Department and head of Taiwan National Yang Ming University Medical Science Department. He expressed that his interest in aromatherapy research is enhanced by the fact that research and academic publications in this field are scarce. The Bel’Air Bio-tech Research Centre hopes to strengthen the foundation of botanic essential oil research and further the investigation of essential oils and their various properties, effects and benefits. Professor Tsai also hopes to share knowledge with international institutions and publish academic papers. At the same time, he aims to educate the public on aromatherapy.

The Effects of Essential Oils on Micro-organisms Present in the Air

Between August 2000 and September 2002, Bel’Air Bio-tech Research Centre carried out a research program to determine whether Green tea essential oil, Ginseng essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil and Lavender essential oil have an influence on the amount of micro-organism (mold, yeast, fungus, bacteria) in the air. The researchers conducted tests on Green Tea essential oil, Ginseng essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil and Lavender essential oil. They burned these 4 types of essential oils in a sealed room, and recorded readings at different time intervals. Readings were taken at the beginning of experiment (0 min), during the experiment (30, 50, 70, 90 mins) and after the experiment (30, 60, 90,120,150,180,210 mins). The experiment was repeated several times based on a sample of 500 litres of air. The experiment results proved that:

Green Tea has 90% effectiveness in killing bacteria; and 61% effectiveness in killing fungus.
Ginseng has 90% effectiveness in killing bacteria; and 62% effectiveness in killing fungus.
Eucalyptus has 52% and 48% effectiveness respectively, as pertaining to the items above.
Lavender has 66% and 71% effectiveness respectively, as pertaining to the items above.
Professor Tsai expressed excitement and interest in such results, because the experiment proved that Sathelyne Bel’Air’s aromatherapy products indeed could combat micro-organism in the air, thus purifying the air. He also said that although the effectiveness figures for fungus seem low, but that is desirable because this would mean that it would not be harmful to the body.

After obtaining such positive and encouraging results, Bel’Air has worked even harder to carry out the 2nd experiment. This program made detailed analysis and records of the chemical compositions of these 5 essential oils, and tests were done to determine their chemical and biological safety.

Professor Tsai carefully selected Ginseng, Green Tea, Green Bamboo, Lotus and Eucalyptus as the 5 essential oils for the experiment. The reason for such a selection was because the 1st four essential oils are plants from the East, of which not enough researches had been carried out in the West. The selection of Eucalyptus was to act as a test reference for the other 4.

Chemical and Biological Safety Experiment

The 2nd experiment went through the following steps:

Using GC-MS to analyse the chemical composition of these 5 essential oils.
Based on their individual chemical compositions, analysis was done to determine the safety for use of essential oils.
Using GC_MS to determine the after effects of these essential oils, whether any by-products or toxins were produced in the combustion process.
Using Ames test to test the before and after changes of these essential oils.

Using skin cells, fat cells and HepG2cancer cells to determine essential oils effects.

Find out what effects these essential oils have in combating bacteria and killing micro-organism such as mold, yeast and fungus (MIC).
The 2nd experiment results proved that these essential oils have compositions that are mild, low in toxins, do not irritate skin and have low light-sensitivity. The Ames test also proved that these essential oils do no go through major changes before and after the combustion process. What is more encouraging is that before the test, these essential oils already contained beneficial compositions, but after the test, these beneficial compositions diffused into the air and these are what the body needs exactly. Moreover, the body does not easily absorb these compositions in our daily activities.

These experiments carried out by Bel’Air and Yang Ming University have achieved positive results, and we hope that in future, there will be more of such experiments to make the benefits known to consumers.

The Aims of Bio-technology in the Medical Applications of Aromatherapy

1. To determine the plant essences and their scientific applications, their methods of production and their

relevance for health therapy and health maintenance.

2. To establish the concepts and the operational models.

3. To bring aromatherapy into the realm of medical treatments.

4. To employ modern methods of making new medicinal products in setting up aromatherapy processes, so as to develop aromatic medical science.

Cognitive Therapy - Why it does not Work in Every Psychological Condition

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 3:42 am on Saturday, January 17, 2009

A lady was once referred for treatment for emotional distress. This distress had resulted from unpleasant memories of having undergone sexual abuse. In her case cognitive therapy had been unhelpful, Her own opinion was that cognitive therapy did not address the anger and fear that she was feeling strongly .

There are many approaches in therapy that are available for anyone who wants this service. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)is the most well known, because it is the most researched form of therapy. CBT is the product of the West, where people are encouraged to think and discouraged to feel emotions. CBT is based on the premise that our thinking can change our feelings.

This is not always true. When people undergo abuse or torture, no amount of thinking is going to sort out the feeling of rage that underlies such experiences. The rage that one feels about such experiences overwhelms the thinking ability of an individual and the person still ends up acting out the emotion. In all such cases CBT fails to get any results. Yet because it has been written about widely, mental health practitioners erroneously believe that it is the only suitable form of therapy in almost all forms of psychological conditions.

A middle aged man, enraged by an ex-employee’s deception wanted to harm the ex-employee physically. Overwhelmed by anger, he felt that the only way the person would realize how they felt was by conferring physical pain. No amount of reason or logic was useful. According to him, ‘action had to be taken’. The best solution in this case was to reduce the anger by releasing it. When it was done in a few minutes, he thanked me for helping him out of the situation. The perception had changed. The thoughts were non-aggressive. Needless to say, he did not act out the rage.

When our inner drives are strong, they overwhelm our thinking. At such times reason or logic is governed by the drives. Anger is one such emotion. When it takes the form of rage, the person may lash out physically. The solution does not lie in reasoning with the person, but to help the person reduce the drive. In other situations when the anger is in the form of annoyance, reason can still be used to ‘distract’ the person away from the issue. But the feeling stays. To distinguish between times when behaviour can be changed by thinking and when it cannot be changed by thinking requires wisdom.

MSM: Enhance Your Overall Beauty, Your Hair, Nails, And Skin While Reducing Allergic Reactions

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 9:03 am on Thursday, January 15, 2009

Welcome to another exciting issue of “The Home Made Medicine e-zine”.

This time you are going to be blown away by the article I’m about to put in your hands, if you are really serious about your health, you will jump and run to your health store as soon as you finish reading this piece. Ok…ok enough hype! Let’s get right to it.

Rarely in life we came across a pharmaceutical drug or and herb that can deliver many benefits, although you have heard me talk about many herbs that can reduce acne while regulating hormone production, and providing essential vitamins, but none compare to the immense benefits provided by a mineral called MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane). If you ever dreamed about a product that can enhance your overall beauty, by making your hair stronger, thicker and shinier, while reducing your allergic reactions to foods, animals, dust and pollen.

Although Sulfur has existed for millions of years on the hearth’s crust, and all living things have sulfur in them including us, its importance was recently discovered. Every cell in the human body contains sulfur, it is an important constituent of our skin, nails, and hair. It is also the main ingredient in collagen, the connective tissue that holds the body together.

MSM’s properties and benefits have generated many questions which we will answer in this issue:

What is sulfur, and why do I need it?

Sulfur is an acid-forming mineral, that is part of several amino acids. As we mention before sulfur is present in every cell of your body, and it is needed for the production of collagen, which in turn it is used by the body to generate tissue and cartilage, this makes it very important for people suffering from arthritis, more on this later, many vitamins and amino acids, that are essential for proper functioning of the body contain sulfur as well.

What are good food sources of this sulfur?

Beef, poultry, fish, milk, and eggs are all good food sources of sulfur. Soybeans, turnips, dried beans, brussels sprouts, and kale, are also good. Broccoli, cabbage, garlic and onions contain small amounts of sulfur, a very important point needs to be made, vegetables containing small amounts of sulfur lose their properties when cooked. Chances are that your diet does not provide you with enough sulfur, plants absorb sulfur from the soil, animals eat plants absorbing sulfur from it, and we eat both animals and plants absorbing sulfur from them, however the use of chemicals and pesticides contribute the depletion of sulfur from the soil. It is very likely that the foods we eat do not contain the necessary sulfur we need to keep a healthy level of the mineral in our bodies.

If you consume too much processed foods, then for sure you are not getting enough sulfur.

What could happen if I have a sulfur deficiency?
Several things could go wrong if you suffer from sulfur deficiency, one of them, is the inability to replace or repair tissue, you can also experience heighten sensitivity to pain. Also, sulfur deficiency is associated with gastrointestinal problems, arthritis, acne and memory loss. Allergies may also become a problem, plus skin, nail and hair problems are very common.

As you can see MSM is a fundamental mineral to maintain a healthy body. In our next issue we will study the benefits that MSM provide to our external appearance, We will answer the questions. What MSN does to my skin, hair, and nails? How acne sufferers can benefit from MSM? Can MSM make me look younger? And many more.

So don’t miss the next issue of the HomeMade Medicine e-zine.

If you normally buy MSM you are paying to much! If want to start taking MSM make sure you get the best quality and the best price. Visit our health store to find more information on MSM in capsules, doses, and plain helpful information; search for MSM.

Not Sure About the MindBody Connection? You Already Use It To Produce Pain Relief

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 8:47 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2009

But Not Nearly Often Enough

If you’re skeptical about your ability to use your own subconscious to ease pain, consider this: you already do it. But you do it by accident, so you don’t notice. Here’s how to do it on purpose and get better results.

Let’s say you had a bad night and awoke with more pain than usual. You’re resigned to having a bad day, but suddenly find your daughter on your doorstep asking if you would mind watching your four-year-old grandson for a few hours. He’s the light of your life, and that morning as you play with him the time just flies by. You hardly think of your pain.

What you’ve just demonstrated is something that all of us who suffer from chronic discomfort have experienced at one time or another: the power of the mind to interrupt the pain cycle. This seems to occur on an accidental basis when four common types of events occur:

Positive Feelings. The story about the grandson is a good example. When something better than expected occurs, the subconscious tends to release dopamine, a brain chemical that produces feelings of well-being. Even though the amount of pain may be no different, you usually notice it less.

Distractions. When you’re intensely engaged in an activity you love you tend to feel less pain. During this kind of a distraction you’re probably triggering the subconscious to positively influence at least two pain relief factorsthe production of beneficial brain chemicals, and the generation of upbeat emotions.

Relaxation. Anytime you can relax you’re likely to feel less pain. You’ve probably experienced this after a hot bath, an hour of your favorite music, or a massage from a therapist who knows how to avoid your sore spots. Heat, music and touch signal the subconscious to relax the musculoskeletal system, which eases pain.

Acceptance. You may have noticed that the more you resist your pain the more it hurts you. If you’ve ever been able to just let it be, and not fight it, it probably backed off a little. In that moment you inadvertently gave your subconscious the message that the pain was within your tolerance level, and it may have complied.

These factors could be operating whether you have back pain or pain in the neck or other extremities, arthritis pain, fibromyalgia pain, or even neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

The Role of Visualization

Many of the occasions on which you’ve reduced pain due to positive feelings, distractions, relaxation or acceptance have probably been accidents. But they prove that the mind-body connection works, not just for other people but for you yourself.

Through visualization statements you may be able to build on these experiences to make them regular events.

Visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious wants you to read back to it to help ease your pain. They’re simple and are targeted directly at the main factors that could bring you relief.

You can obtain these statements by learning how to communicate directly with your own subconscious mind. The process is straightforward and can be done at home by working with a facilitator over the telephone. You you need no special skills and no previous experience in working with the subconscious.

• You can directly visualize an increase in dopamine, and can indirectly do so by reading visualization statements designed to produce feelings of wellbeing.

• You can visualize an increase in your love for different activities, thereby helping to make them valid distractions from your pain.

• You can visualize the relaxation of your muscles and an increase in the flexibility of your tendons and ligaments, helping to remove pain from within.

• You can visualize the acceptance of your pain, assisting your subconscious to move it into your range of tolerance.

Programming the Subconscious

The subconscious is quite powerful. When programmed through the very visualizations that it suggests, it may be able to turn episodes of accidental pain relief into events over which you have a degree of control.

Shamanic Healing In The 21st Century

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 4:38 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Shamanic healing describes in essence a group of processes that has been practised throughout the millennia, and throughout every civilisation in the world, which entails for a shaman to travel in non-ordinary realms (quantum realms, other worlds, dreamtime etc) and there, to make changes, learn about the nature of the problem and to bring back resolutions.

Shamanic healing relies at the baseline for any practitioner, or shaman, to be able to contact and understand the underlying “invisible” energetic realities of the world.

Therefore, and although for example soul healing, soul loss and a range of mind healing and incarnational healing activities is what is most commonly associated with shamanic healing, a shaman can also “read plants”, minerals, other forms of energy imprints and match these to the problem at hand.

True shamanic healing is absolutely fascinating and not to be confused with a mind game that used to be played at some length in the “new age communities” of the late 20th century.

The difference between an “imagining” and a true shamanic healing experience is known because it is FELT; further more, when a true shamanic healing experience has taken place, REALITY CHANGES as a result.

For a beginner studying shamanic healing work, it is of the essence to REMAIN REAL at all times.

Humans are easily given to imagination and delusion; and someone who has never experienced an orgasm would probably be hard pushed to explain the difference in the sensations of an orgasm, and a good sneeze.

It is therefore essential for a junior shaman to first of all, learn how to differentiate between what is real and what is just an imagining; this is needed to set the path in the right direction, towards more real experiences and away from disturbing illusions.

The EmoTrance healing system provides this ESSENTIAL assistance at level 1 by focussing on PHYSICAL SENSATIONS related to INVISIBLE occurrences. The body doesn’t lie; and to learn to trust one’s own PHYSICAL responses, to read them correctly and to USE THEM in order to stay on the path of reality and not get lost in illusion is the first lesson, first task of shamanic healing.

In past societies, shamans were put through severe rituals of pain to “ground them in physicality” and to teach them the all important lessons of reality vs illusions; in the EmoTrance healing system, we USE THE EXISTING PAIN of old injuries in the energy system (in the spirit person, in the spirit realms of a human being) to learn these lessons instead - and whilst we do this, we get to HEAL these old wounds at the same time.

This increases the shamans ability to feel, to perceive; it releases their limitations of fear and reversal and it is indeed the first and most important step to moving forward into true shamanic healing at the higher levels of reality.

Ayurveda: A Natural Health 101 Article

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 1:45 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2009

What It Is

Ayurveda is the traditional medical system of sub-continental India. With an archeological record going back 7000 years and an unbroken written history dating back to around 1500 B.C., Ayurveda is easily the oldest medical system still in existence and is also one of the most comprehensive. Though it’s often treated by westerners as nothing more than folk medicine, Ayurveda in India is always practiced alongside technology-based medicine. Unlike other “natural” medicines Ayurveda happily embraces techniques like micro-surgery and CAT scans.

Modern medicine, both mainstream and alternative, owes much to Ayurveda. Ancient practitioners studied medical theories including psychiatry, optometry, general wellness and surgery. Both Chinese acupuncture and Chinese herbology were build on Ayurvedic foundations and Ayurveda offers the largest catalog of herbal therapies ever known.

Perhaps the thing that sets Ayurveda apart from other therapies is its use of body typing. Ayurveda groups people according to how the natural forces, or elements, influence them emotionally, mentally and physically, then assigns nutritional, meditative and herbal therapies according to the dominate “dosha” each person displays.

What It Can Do For You

Today’s Ayurveda is strongly influenced by Hindu and Buddhist practices and that can make it difficult for Americans to fully appreciate. But if you have the right motivation and are willing to keep an open mind Ayurveda can be a powerful ally in your search for wellness. Ayurveda teaches that the spiritual and the physical aspects of healing are equally important and that neither takes place without the other. Detoxification is an important part of Ayurveda and practitioners strive to balance the natural forces (or doshas) in the body through nutrition, exercise, meditation and massage. Ayurveda is primarily concerned with longevity and quality of life and puts great emphasis on disease prevention.

Finding a Qualified Practitioner

American Ayurveda is very different from authentic Indian Ayurveda and you may have considerable difficulty finding a qualified practitioner–most American practitioners focus on the herbal side of Ayurveda and virtually ignore the rest. But if you can find a well-trained practitioner (preferable an M.D.) he or she can take the place of your existing family practitioner.

What The Critics Say

Critics of Ayurveda dismiss it as just another folk medicine and point to its emphasis on spirituality as proof that it’s outdated and backward.

My Opinion

When I started working on my Ayurveda Certification I was looking for just enough information to confidently answer my clients’ questions. Years later, I’m still learning and no longer describe Ayurveda as a “Indian folk medicine”.

Health Improvements for Your Family

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 11:48 am on Sunday, January 11, 2009

Your husband always seems tired. Your son is always hungry. And your daughter? Well, she goes through enough hair products to try to make her hair look healthier, that you’re sure all the chemicals she’s using are going to make her go bald. So, what if there was a way you could increase your husband’s metabolism, decrease your son’s hunger, and give your daughter really healthy hair instead of hair that just looks healthy? And what if all that could be done from the juice of just one plant’s fruit?

This miracle juice is extracted from the fruit of a plant called Morinda citrifolia, also known as Noni in Hawaii and Nonu/Nono in the Pacific Islands. Its juice, when drank regularly, can increase a person’s metabolism to give the body more energy and help the body absorb more nutrients from the food that’s eaten. So a person doesn’t feel the need to eat all of the time. Also, because the juice from the Noni fruit is great for the entire body, hair and nails become stronger and shinier.

People have used the Noni plant for thousands of years — a plant that was so well needed it was carried over seas with travelers who settled on a land that is now called French Polynesia. The Noni plant stands about 20 feet tall and it bears its fruit all year long. The fruit is about the size of a large pear. As well as drinking its juice as a tonic, its fruit can be eaten with salt (raw or cooked) and made into a curry. Even its leaves can be eaten as a vegetable and its seeds can be roasted for a healthy treat. The bark and its roots have also been used as a natural brown and yellow dye, respectively.

So what else is the juice from the Noni fruit good for? By giving Noni juice from Tahiti to your family you can clean out their bodies’ toxins. This will help improve circulation, keep their bones strong, and their muscles fit. Grape seed extract and Vitamin C have been known as great antioxidants in the past, but lab tests have shown that the original Noni juice from Tahiti works better. And then of course, because your family’s bodies are working in top form, their immune systems will be able to fight off those viruses that invade your family home at least twice a year!

It’s always a good feeling when you know you are doing right by your family: you tell them to eat their vegetables, get plenty of sleep, bathe regularly and get a lot of exercise. Now, one more thing you can tell them to do to keep them healthy is to drink their Noni juice, and remember to toast to their good health when you do.

Going Back to the Basics: Revival of Traditional Treatment through Herbs

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 11:41 pm on Friday, January 9, 2009

Herbal medicine has its origins in ancient cultures including those of the Egyptians, American Indians and Chinese. It involves the medicinal use of plants to treat disease and enhance general health and wellbeing.

There are over 750,000 plants on earth. Relatively speaking, only a very few of the healing herbs have been studied scientifically. And because modern pharmacology looks for one active ingredient and seeks to isolate it to the exclusion of all the others, most of the research that is done on plants continues to focus on identifying and isolating active ingredients, rather than studying the medicinal properties of whole plants.

Herbalists use the leaves, flowers, stems, berries, and roots of plants to prevent, relieve, and treat illness. From a “scientific” perspective, many herbal treatments are considered experimental. The reality is, however, that herbal medicine has a long and respected history. Many familiar medications of the twentieth century were developed from ancient healing traditions that treated health problems with specific plants. Today, science has isolated the medicinal properties of a large number of botanicals, and their healing components have been extracted and analyzed. Many plant components are now synthesized in large laboratories for use in pharmaceutical preparations. For example, vincristine (an antitumor drug), digitalis (a heart regulator), and ephedrine (a bronchodilator used to decrease respiratory congestion) were all originally discovered through research on plants.

Traditional Medicine can also have impact on infectious diseases. For example, the Chinese herbal remedy Artemisia annua, used in China for almost 2000 years has been found to be effective against resistant malaria and could create a breakthrough in preventing almost one million deaths annually, most of them children, from severe malaria.

In South Africa, the Medical Research Council is conducting studies on the efficacy of the plant Sutherlandia Microphylla in treating AIDS patients. Traditionally used as a tonic, this plant may increase energy, appetite and body mass in people living with HIV.

The efficacy of many medicinal plants has been validated by scientists abroad, from Europe to the Orient. Thanks to modern technology, science can now identify some of the specific properties and interactions of botanical constituents. With this scientific documentation, we now know why certain herbs are effective against certain conditions. Almost all of the current research validating herbal medicine has been done in Germany, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Russia. And for the most part, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is responsible for licensing all new drugs (or any substances for which medicinal properties are claimed) for use in the United States, does not recognize or accept findings from across the sea. Doctors and government agencies want to see American scientific studies before recognizing the effectiveness of a plant as medicine. Yet even though substantial research is being done in other countries, drug companies and laboratories in the United States so far have not chosen to put much money or resources into botanical research. The result is that herbal medicine does not have the same place of importance or level of acceptance in this country as it does in other countries

Hypnosis

HYPNOSIS is a state of induced but conscious sleep through the process of suggestion. Hypnosis must be readily accepted by the subject in order for the hypnosis to be achieved. Usually, the process of hypnosis involves a hypnotist and a subject. Hypnosis is characterized by deep concentration and extreme relaxation. And of course, a high degree of suggestibility. Different social settings are utilized for hypnosis. From the showroom to the clinic, to the classroom and even police stations. Hypnosis may or may not work for individuals using this format for pain relief, addictions, fear and other problems such as weight control, quitting smoking, etc. The subject’s degree of suggestibility is truly the core portal for hypnosis. This trance-like state is commonly viewed as an altered state of consiousness.

Hypnosis provides accessibility to the unconscious and subconscious mind. Repressed memories, multiple personalities, insights or even past life memories can be accessed via hypnosis. Although Freud was the father of repression, he gave up using hypnosis in therapy; however, hypnosis continues to be used still today.
