The Link Between Antibiotics and Allergies

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 3:44 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2008

Most of us in the alternative medicine arena know that allergy medicine is a huge business, with an immense array of non-prescription over-the-counter products to address nearly any complaint. Bear in mind, however, that they are not appropriate for all patients. In addition to their side-effects such as sedation or nerve reaction, allergy and sinus medications could be incompatible with certain prescription treatments and the chronic health conditions they treat, including high blood pressure, asthma, glaucoma, prostate problems, anxiety, and attention deficit disorder. Even in the best case scenario, allergy medicines could generate detrimental side effects that limit their use on a regular basis.

A recent study from the University of Michigan Medical School might have unearthed a clue. Now it turns out that the rise of another phenomenonthe use of antibioticsmay hold the answer. The University researchers found that antibiotics seem to prime the immune system to over-react to substances it could just as well ignore.

When the research team gave laboratory mice a five-day course of antibiotics, the animals showed the same effect seen in humans; an upset in the balance of yeast and other microbes in the gut. They then exposed the mice to several common allergens. The mice given antibiotics were hypersensitive to them, while the other mice had a normal immune response.

In the past, we have always thought of allergies and asthma as involving mainly the respiratory system. This research, however, suggests the microbes in the gut play a significant role. The results support a theory that our modern society is too sanitary. According to the results that support the “hygiene hypothesis”, when you are not exposed to very many bugs, your immune system has a hard time differentiating between a harmless substance (such as pollen) and a dangerous toxin, so it is likely to overreact.

A growing number of holistically minded people are seeking natural alternatives to the traditional drugstore offerings. With their temperate actions and minimal side effects, botanical and alternative remedies are a good option for many a sufferer. In contrast to a trip to a big chain drugstore, the preparation of natural remedies is more similar to a craft than a chore, calling to us to slow our tempo, reflecting on the beauty and usefulness of nature’s wealth.

Acupuncture: A Benefit to the Well Individual?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 8:08 am on Friday, September 26, 2008

Before we begin a discussion about the benefits of acupuncture, let’s talk about the origins of acupuncture. It was first used in China over 2000 years ago, and is one of the oldest medical procedures in the world. It is a family of procedures that stimulates the anatomy of the body and helps to balance the energy flow throughout the body. It is this kind of acupuncture that is practiced in the United Sates today, through the use of tiny, metallic needles placed in affected areas and manipulated by hand or by electrical stimulation.

Acupuncture is the basic foundation for Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the belief that there are two opposing and inseparable forces within our body. They are known as the Yin and Yang of the entire person. The Yin is representative of the cold, slow, or passive principle, and yang represents the hot, excited or active principle. A healthy state is achieved by maintaining a balance state of the yin and yang. This is done through vital pathways or meridians that allow for the flow of qi, or vital energy. The vital energy flow occurs along pathways known as meridians. These meridians connect over 2,000 acupuncture points along the body. There are 12 main meridians, and 8 secondary meridians. Although traditional western medicine does not completely understand how acupuncture works, the proof that it does work has been shown in several studies conducted by western medical facilities.

Now, let’s move to the question of does it work? According to the National Institute of Health, the answer would be yes. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in many areas of health care. Areas such as postoperative nausea, chemotherapy side effects, osteoarthritis, low-back pain, headache, menstrual cramps, addiction, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma, just to name a few. The study revealed that acupuncture was able to provide pain relief, improve function and mobility of joints due to arthritis inflammation, and served to complement standard care.

Although there are many who would doubt the effectiveness of acupuncture, once they are a patient, they are believers. It has been proposed that acupuncture works and produces its effects through regulating the nervous system. The theory proposes that since acupuncture produces its effect through regulation of the nervous system, it induces the release of endorphins and immune system cells at specific sites on the body. There is also the theory that acupuncture alters the brain chemistry by the changing the neurotransmitters in the brain.

Without doubt acupuncture was a benefit in the study, and as a patient myself, I can vouch for the wonderful effect it has had on my back. Although acupuncture is classified as an alternative medicine therapy, and there is still much to be understood about the way it works, it is a proven aid in maintaining optimal health.

But what about the well individual, can acupuncture provide a benefit to them? Absolutely. Because acupuncture works off the belief that we must maintain balance of our vital energy flow in order to remain healthy, acupuncture serves as the tool for realignment. Our vital energy flow can be out of balance, and we still feel and appear quite healthy. It is in this capacity that acupuncture serves as a sort of preventive medicine. Checking and balancing the flow of energy on the meridian points in your body is like your car receiving a tune-up before it is in need of a repair.

Using Acne Treatments

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 10:10 am on Monday, September 22, 2008

When you have acne, you want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. There are hundreds of options you can choose from, and many will promise “immediate” or “overnight” results. Though this may grab your attention, don’t be too fooled by their promises of fast results. Acne does not clear overnight. It takes roughly 6 to 8 weeks on average before results can be noticed. If it has been two months and you have yet to see results, it may be time to switch products - not every acne treatment treats every case of acne.

Before consulting a dermatologist, try using some over-the-counter products. It is important to wash affected areas twice a day with a mild and unperfumed cleanser. A common ingredient in non-prescription cleansers is benzoyl peroxide. This helps your skin to shed it’s out layer (dead skin) as well as works as an antibacterial. As with over washing with soap, over usage of benzoyl peroxide will wash away the necessary amount of oil your skin requires to keep its natural condition. This can lead to redness and peeling.

Your dermatologist may prescribe a variety of acne treatments. Your age, skin type and severity of acne are only a few of the factors that go into determining what type of treatment you doctor may prescribe for you. Most topical treatments will work in a similar fashion as non-prescription solutions (employing the use of benzoyl peroxide), but more effective and without as much risk of inflaming the condition (if used as directed).

Oral pills or tablets such as tetracycline may also be prescribed. These types of prescriptions help by means such as drying up oily secretions. But these oral remedies cannot prevent pores from being blocked, so they are usually prescribed in conjunction with a topical treatment as well. If taken daily, expect to see results in 3 - 6 months.

As you can see, even with prescriptions, it takes time for acne treatments to take effect. In some cases, even certain prescriptions may not clear up your acne. The important this is to set realistic time expectations, and have open lines of communication with your doctor about what is or isn’t working, and any side-effects you may be suffering from.

Vitamins Aiding in the Cure of Acne

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 3:48 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2008

There are many different types of acne therefore there are many different acne cures and prevention methods that have been used for years by people all over the world. There is no one particular acne product that can be used to treat and cure all types of acne. In many cases whatever acne products and medication you use for treatment will need to be continued for prevention.

Some forms of acne are mild and can be controlled with mild over the counter acne medications, products, natural and home remedies are often the best treatments and turn out to be cures for many people.

Some forms of acne are a result of more serious illnesses and the best acne treatments are given under the care of a physician. When most people think about acne treatments and cures they think of topical products but there are so many acne medications and natural acne treatment programs that incorporate vitamins in healing acne, however it is important to remember that there is no one vitamin or mineral alone that will cure acne.

Vitamins can be one of the best acne treatments as part of a program where other methods are included. Some of the most popular vitamins and minerals used on the market to treat acne that have also been touted as possible acne cures are as listed:

B5: B5 was a at one time believed to be an acne cure when it is really no more than an acne treatment. It was suggested that one should take extremely high doses. Contrary to popular belief, too much of a good thing is not good at all not to mention how it can damage your body in other ways.

Zinc: There were some studies done in which zinc was quite successful in treating acne but it is by no means a cure. It is one of the best treatments for acne for many people and for many it is not. It is said to work better on some people than tetracycline.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is wonderful because it gives a boost to the immune system which will certainly aid in the overall health of your whole body and by default your skin. It also regulates vitamin A which is essential in keeping the skin healthy.

There are a series of vitamins that are essential in keeping you healthy but taking one of them without the others is not a cure for acne. Taking one kind of vitamin is not the best acne treatment and will only cause more of an imbalance in your body that will only aggravate your acne instead of healing it. So what ever you do in effort to treat your acne, do so with an open mind.

What Incredible Things Should Help to Stop a Receding Hair Line in Males

Filed under: Health Parlor — admin at 3:09 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2008

The annoying part of hair loss for males is that there is no sure fire cure. Baldness has been a depressing problem for chaps around the United Kingdom but there are marvellous treatments that can reduce further loss of hair.

There is a lotion based treatment for baldness called Minoxidil that can be taken in tablet or topical lotion form and might well help gents regrow their hair and stop further baldness. The lotion comes in a variety of strengths with three percent being the most used. The loss of hair treatment is used under the guidance of a doctor and should be made aware that it is not a marvellous miracle cure. However, the great success of this loss of hair treatment is around two thirds. The hair loss treatment medication course is a minimum of four months before fabulous results might show and all men are recommended to stay on the hair loss treatment for at least 8 months.

For men that don?t note any regrowth with Minoxidil they should try hair transplants. This is a permanent solution and involves transplanting the skin on the scalp to reduce bald areas. Hair surgery can be expensive and involves a surgical procedure so may not be for every bloke.

What Do People Really Want for Christmas?

Filed under: Best Lifestyle Resources, Shopping Portal — admin at 10:53 pm on Friday, September 19, 2008

If you are aimlessly buying Christmas presents for people with hopes that just one of those things will please them, then you need to read this article. Learn how to buy something they want, or better yet, get them a gift card and spend the rest of the day enjoying time together.

Each year Holiday spending gets more and more excessive. Everyone says that Christmas will be different next year but it will be the same boring holiday. Sure it was fun to get gifts when we were kids; but now that we’re adults do we need to continue the crazy mall shopping every year?

No one can ever know what everyone else knows. The theory espoused is apparently that if you buy a lot of things, eventually you will hit on something that pleases the receipient. Do an online search to find the perfect gift for your loved one. Check with people who know what they want and need. In the course of the year, make a few subtle inquiries so when the gift occasion arises you won’t be stumped. This will hopefully stop you from buying those useless gadgets and trinkets. Gift cards are always an option, when every other idea seems likely to fail. These can be personalized by including a few ornaments or hand-baked cookies or even a personalized card telling them that you wished that they have the last say about their gift. The point is that spending all day surrounded by presents is no match for the gift of family and friends being together.

Though many people agree that gift cards are impersonal, isn’t it more impersonal to buy someone a gift they don’t need or want? Gift ideas are hard to come up with but gift cards are a great back up when questioning and snooping about fail. Musch of the time people won’t admit to what they want even if they know. This group can also be pleased in a variety of ways. Here is a great site for some gifts for everyone.

Exodus and Back

Going back to a former employer is a tough decision to make for any professional. While not all workers have experienced the case where they went back to their former workplace, a huge number of pros have made the job exodus and back. Is it because the pasture is not green as promised? Or opportunities of success are laid to a minimum?

Whatever the case, the good thing about the modern age is that leaving a company or a firm for higher economic prospects somewhere else is no longer an act of ungratefulness and the former employee is no longer a persona-non grata. That is, if he or she left the company in good terms.

For example, while some may find it difficult to have a former boss be his superior again, lawyer Tim Ryan seems to take it in a breeze. He left Mayer Brown, a distinguished law firm with ties to international clients, a total of 3 times and is now on his 4th contract with the firm.

“There was a lot of Super Glue on my chair when I came back,” Ryan mused regarding his 4th stint with Chicago-based firm Mayer Brown.

Lawyers are just some of the few who have been hopping from different companies and firms in search of respect and belongingness, as opposed to economical incentives as the reason for moving to another company.

In a recent survey of lawyers coming back to work for former firms, personal relationships rank as the main motive of going back to their past employers.

Are you planning to go out and purchase a motorbike and need some money fast

Lots of banks wil show you a loan rate that looks good but feels bad after a while. Be smart to investigate if you have a special offer or if you don’t with the bank that offers you a money loan. 18.9 percent interest rate may seem acceptable but will that be the same after you’re going to pay for your loan. A moneylender in Midland Texas may have a totally different rate for a 5000 money loan then a merchant bank in Freeport New York and that makes a huge gap in your monthly pay offs.

Now you can check interest rates at websites and see if there are possible sneaky traps you should be aware of. Check out to see if the moneylender who is tending to give you a loan is fine. you need to go out and check if you can have a bank loan at a good rate. It doesn’t matter if you live in Carrollton Texas or in Bend Oregon a fine inspection will save you huge troubles.

Focus Your Light : Earning Money From Home When You Have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Or Fibromyalgia

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 2:56 am on Thursday, September 11, 2008

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia can make you extremely ill, exhausted and weak. It means you only have a fraction of the waking hours that most people enjoy - and even those waking hours are often spent feeling ill, exhausted and with brain fog.

But you **can** do something in your day - it just may not be much…

… so all you have to do is ‘focus your light’ - focus your energy!

Most healthy people have oodles of energy - but many don’t focus on anything in particular and so they don’t feel that they get anything done.

In essence, many people - healthy or otherwise - sadly lack direction. They lack focus…

Even the tiniest amount of energy - directed every day (or every other day or basically, when you feel well enough) towards a goal - in the end, and after time, forms a huge result.

No matter how much energy you have - if you focus that little amount of the energy on working from home - setting up your own project - you will get there. After all…

… the snail wins the race!

It’s not a question of:

“But how can I make money? I have nothing to sell!” - that’s the one objection pretty much every Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia sufferer that I have talked to, initially comes up with.

I say ‘initially’ because after I’ve explained to them the different ways in which they can make money online, something ‘clicks’…

All you need is a computer, the Internet, and a passion about something. ANYTHING!

We live in a world where knowledge is KING. People are hungry for knowledge - and everyone - EVERYONE - knows something about SOMETHING.

It might be about how to manage 3 kids during the holidays. It might be about your faith in a religion or about spirituality. It might be about your interest in history, pets, makeup, knitting, fishing, model planes, sport, massage, quilting, sewing, gardening, computers, chess, cooking, traveling, cars…

You might know about ways to entertain toddlers and young kids (for baby-sitters and young mothers). You might know about how to be super organized - or maybe you’re good with numbers?

You may know a lot about your local area - its history - or great places to go out to - or beautiful nature trails in your area. You may know about an area you visit often on holiday…

What matters is that you know about something that you can write about - that you can either sell in the form of an e-book (easier than you think), or that you can put on your own web site (also easier than you think), to attract visitors.

Having your own web site on a topic you are passionate about is the BEST way to generate long-term income - if you do it properly.

The point is that YOU know SOMETHING about SOMETHING that SOMEONE ELSE wants to learn about! YOU have knowledge - that someone else is looking for!

The point is that the only thing you need to bring to the table is passion and the motivation to work…

…which won’t actually feel like **work** when you’re doing something you love anyway!

And the great thing about working on your own project is that you can work WHEN you want, for HOW LONG you want, and on WHAT you want.

If you can only manage 25 minutes one day, then that’s 25 minutes more than you would have done if you had done nothing! If you can manage 2 hours on another day - even better! If you can’t manage to do anything another day, then so be it!

It doesn’t matter because you have no-one to answer to but yourself! Because it’s YOUR project!

YOU set the pace…

… focus your energy and you can have your own income-earning web project in months.

This is so important that I’m going to repeat it!!!

Focus your energy and you can have your own income-earning web project in months!!!

And remember - nowadays you don’t even need to know how to code a web site to succeed online. It really is easier than you might think! Find out more about this here:
