Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 / Great Plains Support in Argentina: Dexterity Development, Reporting

Filed under: Software Infos — admin at 11:30 pm on Thursday, June 26, 2008

Microsoft Dynamics ERP product family consists of Microsoft Dynamics GP (former Microsoft Great Plains, Great Plains Software eEnterprise/Dynamics/Dynamics C/S+), Microsoft Dynamics AX (former Microsoft Axapta), Microsoft Dynamics NAV (former Microsoft Navision), Microsoft Dynamics SL (Solomon), Microsoft Dynamics CRM (former Microsoft CRM). In this small article we will be reviewing Microsoft Great Plains and its Spanish version, available and used in Argentina.

• Microsoft Dynamics GP, NAV & AX. All three are translated to Spanish and ready to be deployed in Argentina. Historically both Great Plains Software and Navision Software had marketing plans in Buenos Aires back in 1990th, prior to their acquisition by Microsoft. To consider international market - Microsoft seemed to be promoting Navision Attain / Navision on emerging markets, beginning at 2003 (when Navision made very hard time for Great Plains resellers/VARs in such countries as Brazil, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic), then in 2004/2005 (East Europe), 2005/2006 (LATAM/Brazil) Microsoft Business Solutions / Microsoft Dynamics subdivision of Microsoft decided to localize Microsoft Dynamics AX - Axapta for the same markets.

• Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains. This ERP was architectured by Great Plains Software (Fargo, North Dakota) in the earlier 1990th as one of the first graphical Accounting/MRP packages - Great Plains Dexterity programming language and development tool was intended to isolate ERP from the specifics of computer graphical and database platforms. As for the GPS Dynamics in Argentina - it was translated to Spanish (Dexterity string resources) for versions 5.0, 6.0 and higher

• Great Plains Dexterity Customizations. Dexterity chunks were very elegant customization mechanism for earlier versions of Great Plains Dynamics up to the point when Microsoft Great Plains migrated and established itself as reliable Microsoft SQL Server 6.0, 7.0 and 2000 ERP application. When this happened - Great Plains Dexterity became mixed with SQL scripting and stored procedures, which made former Dexterity database independence and transferability principle irrelevant.

• Great Plains Accounting. You can still find clients in LATAM who run GPA - it is no more supported (support ended in 2002) by Microsoft Business Solutions, if you need support - you should contact VAR, such as Alba Spectrum. Who has access to legacy GPA support database

• Ctree & Btrieve/Pervasive SQL Legacy. The last version of Microsoft Great Plains, which was still supporting these platforms was Great Plains 7.5. Microsoft Business Solutions stopped Pervasive and Ctree/Faircomm support in December 2004. We know that this voluntary step left a lot of local clients in Argentina without the support options and lead to several mid-size businesses scandals.

• Competition. From the high end or functionally rich ERP applications Great Plains meets the competition from Oracle E-Business Suite/Oracle Applications/Oracle Financials and SAP R/3/mySAP/SAP-All-In-One. Also GP is facing the competition from Microsoft Axapta and even partially from Microsoft Navision. From the low end - or simple functionality ERPs Microsoft Dynamics GP is competing with SAP Business One (to be introduced in Argentina in 2006/2007). Plus you should consider locally developed ERP solutions

Migration and Brain Drain - Part II

Filed under: Beyond Cats — admin at 7:33 pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Politicians in some countries decry this trend and deride those emigrating. In a famous interview on state TV, the late prime minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin, described them as “a fallout of the jaded”. But in many impoverished countries, local kleptocracies welcome the brain drain as it also drains the country of potential political adversaries.

Emigration also tends to decrease competitiveness. It increase salaries at home by reducing supply in the labour market (and reduces salaries at the receiving end, especially for unskilled workers). Illegal migration has an even stronger downward effect on wages in the recipient country - illegal aliens tend to earn less than their legal compatriots. The countries of origin, whose intellectual elites are depleted by the brain drain, are often forced to resort to hiring (expensive) foreigners. African countries spend more than $4 billion annually on foreign experts, managers, scientists, programmers, and teachers.

Still, remittances by immigrants to their relatives back home constitute up to 10% of the GDP of certain countries - and up to 40% of national foreign exchange revenues. The World Bank estimates that Latin American and Caribbean nationals received $15 billion in remittances in 2000 - ten times the 1980 figure. This may well be a gross underestimate. Mexicans alone remitted $6.7 billion in the first 9 months of 2001 (though job losses and reduced hours may have since adversely affected remittances). The IADB thinks that remittances will total $300 billion in the next decade (Latin American immigrants send home c. 15% of their wages).

Official remittances (many go through unmonitored money transfer channels, such as the Asian Hawala network) are larger than all foreign aid combined. “The Economist” calculates that workers’ remittances in Latin America and the Caribbean are three times as large as aggregate foreign aid and larger than export proceeds. Yet, this pecuniary flood is mostly used to finance the consumption of basics: staple foods, shelter, maintenance, clothing. It is non-productive capital.

Only a tiny part of the money ends up as investment. Countries - from Mexico to Israel, and from Macedonia to Guatemala - are trying to tap into the considerable wealth of their diasporas by issuing remittance-bonds, by offering tax holidays, one-stop-shop facilities, business incubators, and direct access to decision makers - as well as matching investment funds.

Migrant associations are sprouting all over the Western world, often at the behest of municipal authorities back home. The UNDP, the International Organization of Migration (IOM), as well as many governments (e.g., Israel, China, Venezuela, Uruguay, Ethiopia), encourage expatriates to share their skills with their counterparts in their country of origin. The thriving hi-tech industries in Israel, India, Ireland, Taiwan, and South Korea were founded by returning migrants who brought with them not only capital to invest and contacts - but also entrepreneurial skills and cutting edge technologies.

Thailand established in 1997, within the National Science and Technology Development Agency, a 2.2 billion baht project called “Reverse the Brain Drain”. Its aim is to “use the ‘brain’ and ‘connections’ of Thai professionals living overseas to help in the Development of Thailand, particularly in science and technology.”

The OECD (”International Mobility of the Highly Skilled”) believes that:

“More and more highly skilled workers are moving abroad for jobs, encouraging innovation to circulate and helping to boost economic growth around the globe.”

But it admits that a “greater co-operation between sending and receiving countries is needed to ensure a fair distribution of benefits”.

The OECD noted, in its “Annual Trends in International Migration, 2001″ that (to quote its press release):

“Migration involving qualified and highly qualified workers rose sharply between 1999 and 2000, helped by better employment prospects and the easing of entry conditions. Instead of granting initial temporary work permits only for one year, as in the past, some OECD countries, particularly in Europe, have been issuing them for up to five years and generally making them renewable. Countries such as Australia and Canada, where migration policies were mainly aimed at permanent settlers, are also now favoring temporary work permits valid for between three and six years … In addition to a general increase in economic prosperity, one of the main factors behind the recent increase in worker migration has been the development of information technology, a sector where in 2000 there was a shortage of around 850,000 technicians in the US and nearly 2 million in Europe…”

But the OECD underplays the importance of brain drain:

“Fears of a “brain drain” from developing to technologically advanced countries may be exaggerated, given that many professionals do eventually return to their country of origin. To avoid the loss of highly qualified workers, however, developing countries need to build their own innovation and research facilities … China, for example, has recently launched a program aimed at developing 100 selected universities into world-class research centers. Another way to ensure return … could be to encourage students to study abroad while making study grants conditional on the student’s return home.”

The key to a pacific and prosperous future lies in a multilateral agreement between brain-exporting, brain-importing, and transit countries. Such an agreement should facilitate the sharing of the benefits accruing from migration and “brain exchange” among host countries, countries of origin, and transit countries. In the absence of such a legal instrument, resentment among poorer nations is likely to grow even as the mushrooming needs of richer nations lead them to snatch more and more brains from their already woefully depleted sources.

Filed under: Shopping Portal — admin at 8:40 am on Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Not really sure which fruity lubricant to go for? Your questions should be touched upon in this fab sex lubricant article.

Lubricants aren’t just for sexual intercourse. Getting lubed up for single fun is one of the most common uses for sexual lubricants, fruity oils and fruity lotions. Using sexual lubricant during solo fun is safe, lovely and practical. You will want your vibes to slip and thrust as far as possible. If you like lube you should try it with your favourite Anal Toys.

If customers are looking for a lube which is safe to have with all vibes stick to a water-based lube, there are many yummy flavours out there like strawberry. And there are some that tingle.

Veterans will probably already know what water based lubricant is most enjoyable for them. But if you yourself are getting a lubricant for the 1st time Sex Bomb would adore to recommend the following. It?s wise to start off with a water-based fruity lube. Water-based fruity lubes don?t stain and sex lubricants are totally safe to use on all martial toys. If you yourself wish to apply a lubricant for oral play we recommend you get one of the rich blackberry flavoured ones. Evaluating Bandwidth Choices - ADSL vs SDSL

Filed under: Web Of Websters — admin at 6:33 am on Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Looking for bandwidth? That can be a daunting and frustrating task even in the best of situations. There’s lots to consider in order to make the right decision for your needs. Below you’ll find some help when evaluating ADSL vs SDSL. Factors covered include Technology, Speed, Description, Application, Pros, Cons, and Costs.

~~~~~~~~~
Technology: ADSL
Speed: 768Kbps to 6.1 Mbps downstream. Upstream speeds range from 64Kbps-1Mbps.
Description: The most common type of DSL. Deployed over a copper wire pair in conjunction with an analog phone line.
Application: Commercial and consumer Internet service. Popular with consumers because of low-cost, short provisioning times and high download speeds.
Pros: High-speed access at a relatively low-cost. Availability is approaching 70% in most major metropolitan areas. Installation times are often less than 30days.
Cons: Not available in all areas. Slow upload speed. Bandwidth is aggregated at the Central Office and is subject to oversubscription. Not ideal for businesses or heavy users.
Costs: Consumer services starts at around $30-50. But….the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier and location of service. For example…it’s likely to be more costly in rural areas and some local/regional providers may offer better rates than Tier 1 carriers.
~~~~~~~~~~

Technology: SDSL

Speed: Up to 2.3Mbps both ways.

Description: A form of HDSL, provisioned over a single twisted-pair of copper wire at distances up to 12,000 feet.

Application: Ideal for businesses due to symmetrical data transmission speeds and advanced features such as multiple IP addresses.

Pros: High-speed access at a low-cost when compared to T-1. Often provides more features than ADSL.

Cons: Not available in all areas. Bandwidth is aggregated at the Central Office and is subject to oversubscription. More costly and longer install times than ADSL.

Costs: Business service starts at around $50-80 and can be as high as a few $100 monthly. But….the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service, and the application for which the connection is being used. For example…it’s likely to be much more costly in rural areas. While some local/regional providers may offer better rates than Tier 1 carriers…you’ll have to consider possible tradeoffs in stability and reliabilty.

One Size Pyramid Doesn’t Fit All

Filed under: Nutrition Portal — admin at 5:03 am on Monday, June 23, 2008

Even if you don’t follow a high fiber menu or alot of high fiber recipes, have a half cup of orange juice at breakfast, a pear with lunch, and a salad along with a cooked vegetable at dinner. You’ve just met some of the standards from the new FDA nutritional guidelines, “MyPyramid”.

It’s all very simple. Eat a minimum of three one-ounce servings of whole grains daily along with at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. For the high fiber challenged, try a whole grain cereal at breakfast rather than the sugar-laden, empty calorie brand you stock in the pantry. Switch from white to whole grain bread for your lunchtime sandwich.

In April, 2005, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) released it’s interactive dietary guidleines called Mypyramid. Apparently we were long overdue for an updated version of the flawed and misleading former food pyramid. With the current growing awareness of the health benefits of high fiber food in today’s diet, it’s a wonder that Americans have made it this far without more effective guidelines. Or have we?

Two-thirds of Americans are now overweight, and some experts actually blame some of that on the food pyramid. The old one consisted of the “Four Basic Food Groups” that you remember growing up with as a kid. Too many kids today are faced with weight problems due to poor eating habits and lack of exercise.

MyPyramid is by design simple and encourages healthier food choices including whole grains and high fiber foods along with daily exercise.

Six bands of color from the peak of MyPyramid to the base indicate: orange for grains, green for vegetables, red for fruits, a tiny band of yellow for oils, blue for milk, and purple for meat and beans. The widths suggest the amount of food a person should select from each group.

A little figure running up the stairs acts as a reminder to get some exercise. Unfortunately, no mention is made of the differences between aerobic and anaerobic exercise, or the role of strength training

The new guidelines distinguish between ‘grains’ and ‘whole grains’, essential when choosing fiber-rich foods. Rather than just suggesting we eat fruits and vegetables’, MyPyramid suggests eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables rather than the empty calories found in fruit juices.

The guidelines include healthy dairy choices that are low-fat instead of the highly saturated fats found in some milk and cheeses. The three recommended glasses of low-fat milk, however, can add more than 300 calories a day. Not great for those concerned about controlling their weight.

Also encouraged is replacing red meat with a combination of fish, poultry, beans, and nuts offers numerous health benefits. Be aware that these foods have different types of fats.

Basically, MyPyramid emphasizes good fats,like olive and fish oil, not butter and animal fat, and good carbs,like those from vegetables, whole grains and fruits, ot from processed grains and sugars.

MyPyramid contains interactive activities that make it easy to key in your age, sex and your amount of physical activity to create a more personalized recommendation for a daily calorie intake.

No doubt in the years to come, researchers will discover new evidence that will impact more changes for a healthy diet. But the results are in and here to stay: a high fiber diet is vital to long-term health. Pyramid. Period.

Are You Content With Your Web Articles? 5 Ways to Dominate Your Niche With Copy that Rocks

Filed under: Publishers Bar — admin at 4:33 pm on Thursday, June 19, 2008

Web articles - they’re immensely popular these days, for the simple reason that you can broadcast your name and URL all over the web with them. Trouble is, everybody’s doing it… and that means major competition in ALL categories! So the question is: How will you keep your reader focused on YOUR article and not the other guy’s? Read on for Killer Article-Writing Secrets that Will Bump You Up on the Popularity Charts!

1. Write Power Headlines.

Which of these sounds better: “5 Ways to Create Better Web Articles,” or “5 Ways to Dominate Your Niche with Articles that Rock”? Your headlines MUST pop off the page, and that means slipping those dynamic power words in whenever you can. And don’t forget the search engines. Give the Google Monster something to snack on: popularly searched keyword terms in the first three words of your article’s headline. You can find related keyword search terms right here: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

2. Make it Meaty.

Remember how peeved you were last time you clicked that article with the awesome headline only to start reading and find out that the author had virtually NOTHING to say? What makes an article ‘meaty’? Specifics as opposed to generalizations. You MUST think details. Instead of saying “Download a free web editor,” direct the reader to a specific website: “Download a free web editor at http://nvu.com.

3. Talk it Through.

Here’s something that so many new authors forget: in your article, you want to have a conversation with your reader. That means natural emphatic pauses, strong pacing… and yes, even permission to use colloquial speech! (Did you notice that pacing, by the way? How’d she do that?) You’re allowed and even encouraged to have fun while writing. Your best bet: pretend you’re writing an email to a friend, and then let the story flow.

4. Add Those Keywords.

What are keywords? Popularly searched terms that web surfers use to look up information in the search engines. You can find out what folks are hunting for by going to that Overture tool we talked about earlier, which is here: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/. Plug in your category and sprinkle the resulting phrases throughout your article. Use keywords liberally in your headline and first paragraph!

5. Give Away Freebies.

Share your favorite tools and web resources (notice I did that here) with your readers, and see how fast you become one of the top authors in your niche. People LOVE free stuff… and if you don’t share, some other guru will.

Home Based Business For Women - Is There A Difference?

Filed under: Business Opps — admin at 7:52 pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2008

“Home based business for women” is the way many programs are advertised because women are the ones who want to contribute to the family income and still stay at home with the children. With a home based business, women not only make money, but they save on the child care expenses, which can be quite costly. There is really no difference in a home based business for women than for men, because in today’s world both genders can do anything they want. Any home based business for women is just a home based business that women will like to do and can do well.

What would you consider to be a womens home based business? Sewing, knitting, arranging parties for selling candles or cookware - yes these are some examples of good ideas for a home based business for women. Women can also work at home as travel agents and enjoy good salaries and big travel discounts. They can be writers for web site content or sell their own products online.

Since women are savvy shoppers, they know what other women are looking for when they go shopping. The Internet has brought us a whole new shopping experience, where we can sit back at home and shop at designer stores all over the country and indeed the world. Ideas for a home based business for women do have to include selling online or at least an affiliate program leading women customers to stores where they can easily find what they want to buy.

Selling children’s clothing online or hard to find womens sizes in clothing - these are two examples of a profitable home based business for women. Men can also have this type of business, even though some might think it is a women’s home based business. Customers who shop online don’t really care whether men or women own the site as long as they can get what they need at an affordable price.

When you think about using an idea for a home based business for women, you should also compare the costs involved in starting a regular business that you operate out of your home with that of a women’s home based business operating on the Internet. Whichever type of home based business for women you choose, you will have to work at it to make it profitable. However, it doesn’t take as much work or as high an investment to realize profits from an Internet home based business.

Ultimately, any home based business for women comes down to the individual. What does she like to do? What does she want to do?

Pressure From the Top?

Filed under: Plugs — admin at 7:10 pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Yes, and that pressure often comes from a CEO who knows
what a public relations investment SHOULD produce.

And do public relations folks fear such pressure? Not those
who’ve got the answers!

For example, “we’re spending your public relations investment
in the most effective way - insuring that our most important
external audiences perceive us accurately, understand what we
do, and end up taking those actions we desire.

“We’re operating from a solid foundation,” Mr/Ms Chairman,
or Executive Director. Namely, people will act on their own
perception of the facts before them. And those perceptions
will lead to predictable behaviors about which something can
be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by
reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action those folks
whose behaviors affect your business, the public relations
effort is a success.

So, what actions flow from that underlying premise?

First, we run a kind of G-2 operation by interacting with our
most important external audiences - customers, members,
prospects, technical specifiers and employees, among others.
Here, we ask questions and gather information.

We need to know how they perceive our operation and our
management. We listen carefully to what they say about us,
especially our products or services. At the same time, we
track print and broadcast media and other feedback sources.

We believe it’s important to watch for developing
misconceptions and inaccuracies. Particularly potential problem
areas that may need corrective action. Problems like suggestions
of technical difficulties with our products, personnel questions,
perceptions of obsolescence, or trouble-making competitive
rumors.

Once we’ve identified perceptions that need correcting, the
question is, what is our strategy for getting it done? Here,
we must ask ourselves whether we need to create a certain
perception where none exists, change an existing perception,
or merely reinforce it.

This is really important because the answer obviously will
affect the persuasive messages we’re about to prepare to
correct the misperceptions.

So we carefully put together what we hope will be really
compelling messages. Then, we aim them at those key target
audiences we discovered are harboring misconceptions that,
left unattended, will certainly result in behaviors we don’t like.
Our objective will be to move that opinion in our direction.

Now, not surprisingly, we must select communications tactics,
known in some quarters as “beasts of burden,” that are carefully
structured to carry those persuasive messages directly to the
attention of members of that key target audience.

Communications tactics range from one-on-one meetings,
newspaper and radio interviews and press releases to open
houses, speeches, brochures, newsletters and promotional events.
There are literally scores of such tactics available to you.

Finally, we must gauge the impact of our communications
activity by continuing to meet with members of that key target
audience, and by monitoring our other feedback sources. We
will watch and listen for signs of developing awareness of you,
your operation and how it functions. But especially for
indications that any misconceptions, or other problems we
discovered, have been resolved.

“Mr/Ms Chairman, at the end of the day, I believe you want us
to use our expertise in a way that helps you achieve your
business objectives.”

Thus, regardless of what strategic plan we create to solve a
problem, regardless of what tactical program we put in place,
when all is said and done, we must modify somebody’s behavior
if we are to earn our keep.

And that is our certain path to public relations success.

Insightful Information About the Startling Windsor Castle

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin at 3:36 pm on Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Windsor Castle is understood to be the biggest populated castles on the globe & the eldest in nonstop occupation (over nine hundred years). It is one of the Queen’s three actual homes, and is regularly beloved to be the Queens favourite. The Royal colours flies over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle whilst the Queen is at the residence - whereas, at alternative occasions, the Union Jack flag flutters in its position.

Samuel Pepys has said the Castle to be “the most adored castle around.” That was thought in sixteen sixty six & the equivalent is true today.

Windsor Castle Colourful History:

The assembly of Windsor can be seen in the 7th century Saxon hamlet of Windlesora, where the present day community of Old Windsor is located. The settlement of Windsor is generally branded as “New Windsor” - the word “new” being taken in a loose way!

Windsor Castle was initially constructed by the famed William the Conqueror, following his attack of England in ten sixty-six. The original building was constructed from timber with earth fortifications. The Castle held a clear tactical position on a big hill on top of the River Thames, and was a division of a collection of castles surrounding London, with the Tower of London, one whole days journey away, at its heart. Whilst on holiday in England why not visit Windsor Castle one of Queen Elizabeth?s Royal residences.

The Castle was then later remodelled in stone, & grew in value over history. In recent times Henry the 2nd assembled the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the structure’s primary function became that of a royal home. The Castle has remained principally unchanged from the start of the nineteenth century, apart from the reconstruction effort after the hideous fire.
