How to Move Your Domain Without Any Downtime

Filed under: Web Of Websters — admin at 5:31 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2008

With a little advanced planning, moving your domain to a new hosting company is a painless process. The approach outlined here will allow you to move any domain without downtime. The basic steps are:

  1. Set up your new webhosting account
  2. If needed, transfer your domain
  3. Change your domain’s name servers
  4. Cancel your old hosting account

The first step is to set up a new webhosting account. Pick a host that has the features, support and cost that fit your budget. Follow their online signup process and set up the account.
Make sure you upload all your files to the new site before going on. Step 1 can be completed in 1-24 hours.

The second step is to transfer your domain to a new registrar. I recomend this step IF your registrar and your hosting provider are the same company. Step 2 will take 24 hours wile the domain registries sort themselves out.

The third step is to change your name servers to the name servers of your new hosting provider. Simply log in to your domain registrar’s control pannel and update the name servers to the ones provided to you by your new hosting company. This step will take the longest. If you want to be paranoid about it, wait atleast 48 hours before going to the next step. The longer you wait the better, but 72 hour should be safe enough.

Last but not least, don’t forget to cancel your web hosting with your old internet provider.

Make Your Website Stand Out With an Icon Design

Filed under: Web Of Websters — admin at 12:31 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2008

They may look like a standard image file, but to design an icon, one needs special icon design software capable of creating and saving an image in ICO format.

There are many web design icon sites that, with a price, help you design your own icon. These icon design sites have icon design groups that work from the look and feel of your web site or with any images; you give them, to design an icon compliant with multiple browsers. The icon design is available in different sizes like 256 color, 32×32 and 16×16 pixel designs.

Delivery of the custom made icon graphic design takes about three to four days. If there are any changes, you can make one set of revisions to the icon design at no additional cost. If at all you wish to design your own icon, all you have to do is to use any free design icon web site. Here you have to open the program, and select the icon size and color from its dropdown menu.

Your icon is created with your specifications.
(Internet Explorer entertains icon designs of 16×16 pixels size only and ignores others). Now you can see a large window containing squares; this is your icon canvas. Each square represents a pixel, which you can edit to your requirements. Then you use the tools on the left-hand side of your screen to edit these pixels and to design the icon. If you cannot design
your own icon, use an image that has to either be copied or pasted on the icon canvas or by pasting your image from a file.

In the case of design your own buddy icon, you have to go to a design buddy icon website. Here you have to right click the icon you like, and save it in the computer. Then, in instant messenger, you have to click on one of your buddy icons, which then take you to the buddy icon preferences page. You have to scroll to ‘my buddy icon’ and click that, and then select browse

and find where you saved your coolbuddy icon and select it from there. Your buddy icon is now set! You find that there are some of your favorite sites in the Internet Explorer 5 and above, having an icon displayed beside the link. This icon is a Favicon. Displaying a Favicon with a website makes the website stand out, and build brand awareness. This provides viewers with an instant recognition of your website.

I Want to Work at Home and Make Money Online - What is there to Learn?

Filed under: Business Opps — admin at 2:17 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008

This is what beginners must be wondering about… “What is there to learn?” All the websites out there are talking about making money online, from comforts of one’s home. They also mention that anybody can do it. A housewife, a retired, senior citizen, new mother, student anybody - and everyone has an equal to survive and succeed. “What is there to learn after all?”

The websites also say, you don’t need money, experience or qualification to start a home business. All you need is a computer at home and internet access. Okay, I have a computer and access to internet. Now, what does it take? What do I need to learn?

Well, one step at a time. There are many kinds of jobs or business’ you can do from home. You can join a program that will send you surveys and you will be paid to answer each one of these. See? It fits the bill. To take online surveys all you need is a computer and internet access. And everyone has an equal chance to survive and succeed.

Likewise you can buy a domain name, build a site of your own, (like I do) sell various products on it. When people buy from your site, you get your commissions. In this kind of home business you need to learn the techniques to move your website up the search engine. The techniques are available online. Free of cost. Techniques such as having tightly themed, relevant content on your site, optimizing, exchanging links, writing articles, attending and contributing in forums, placing press-releases.. and so on. They are simple step by step techniques that you pick up as you move ahead.

The home business website takes time to pick up. It also takes a while for you to get a proper hang of things. The learning is an ongoing process. Everyday something is upgraded. Every visit of google leaves footprints behind. You may have a question that needs immediate answering and you can get it answered right away.

You just have to know which word to type in the search engine to get what you want. And your query will be answered right there. If you have understood what I mean then, I can make it simpler for you. See, you have a website about home business and someone is looking for home business. When he/she types home business in the search engine, your site has to show within the first 5-10 options. This means you are high up in the search engine. And to reach here, is the name of the game! This is what is there to learn. How to position your site high up in the search engines for particular keywords (e.g make money online, work at home, home business etc). Once your site reaches here, you have to put in efforts to stay there. Even Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise have to make an effort to stay at the top, who are we?

Choosing Your Scuba Diving Gear

Filed under: Lots Of Sports Resources — admin at 10:38 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2008

Someone once said that scuba diving is like going back to Mother Nature’s womb albeit temporarily because every scuba diver would like to rise above deep waters no matter how cool the scene down there may be.

Scuba diving is a complicated sport that requires training and endurance. Scuba diving is not for the faint of heart, or for those who would shrink at the though of being submerged in water for a long time. This is not to say that scuba diving chooses its players because almost everyone can be a scuba diver, provided they do not have the age and health limitations.

Children as young as fifteen years old and in good health can train on scuba diving to prepare themselves for certification. However, all those interested to undergo training should fill up a health questionnaire and undergo medical checkups to determine their physical conditions.

While scuba divers have more opportunity to admire the fishery resources of the world, divers also dive for other reasons such as for scientific, commercial, military or recreational purposes.

Divers cannot go scuba diving without a certification even if they are doing it for fun. Majority of scuba divers do so for recreational purposes but they still have to undergo certification. Recreational divers can choose from a variety of specialization like underwater photography, search and rescue diving or night diving. Once they become experts in diving they can turn it into a career and become dive masters or underwater photographers.

There are however divers who dive for commercial purposes like for the purpose of salvaging sunken ships, constructing bridges and dams or to build underwater structures. Scientific divers focus on diving for the purpose of research.

A scuba diver must necessarily be a good swimmer who can float on water and swim fairly long distances. Basic swimming skills plus good health will make you eligible for certification as a diver.

A diver must tale note of his safety all of the time not only by getting proper training but also by making use of basic scuba diving gears like masks, fins and snorkels. A beginner can just rent the basic diving gear but if you intend to make this sport a long-term commitment then it would be best to buy the equipment. These three basic diving gear are every affordable and can be bought anywhere.

However, there is other diving gear that are more expensive like wet or dry suits, regulators or buoyancy compensators and scuba diving tanks. To make the most of your scuba diving gear, make sure to rinse them with fresh or tap water after using them. Allow them to dry but not in direct sunlight since they are made of rubber and can easily break down and deteriorate.

The basic diving gear is the same for most divers but specialty divers may have use for more sophisticated gadgets and equipment. But whatever kind of diving you do, always make sure to use the safety gears to protect yourself from the dangers of diving.

Supplements and Drugs: A Hazardous Combination

Filed under: Nutrition Portal — admin at 4:55 am on Thursday, May 29, 2008

As I have become more involved in using functional nutritional therapy in my practice, I have come to realize that many people are still confused about the safety and effectiveness of various dietary supplements. Because these products are “natural”, many feel they are always safe to use. Although supplements and herbs can be safer than pharmaceutical drugs, they can still function as drugs in the body and should be used with caution and respect.

It is estimated that over 80% of the world’s population and 60 million Americans use some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). However, although many believe CAM compliments their current traditional healthcare, most do not inform their physicians that they are taking these products. And, many providers don’t ask or discuss CAM use with their patients, although one survey of 181 cardiologists found that half of them took antioxidant vitamins, themselves.

What many people don’t realize is that there is no regulatory agency in charge of the supplement industry. Herbal products are not tested for purity, effectiveness and safety as drugs are. In 1994, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) was enacted that requires the FDA to prove beyond any doubt that a supplement is unsafe before removing it from the market. Other than regulating what can be included on the label, they are unable to enforce any other regulation.

There is no incentive for supplement companies to conduct research because they are unable to patent ‘natural’ products. Those marketing herbs and other supplements save millions of dollars not spent on research, or worse, yet, conduct their own “research”, which often does not include rigorous controls. Although there are many excellent and reputable supplement companies on the market, the typical consumer is unlikely to know who the credible ones are. Many independent sales representatives only know what the company tells them, and are as unaware as the consumer.

Even if the supplements are pure and not harmful by themselves, problems arise when combined with drugs. Dietary supplements may compete with drugs, leading to toxicity or treatment failure of that drug. An estimated 4 million people are at risk for herbal-prescription drug interactions. Here is a list of the most common interactions between supplements and drugs:

* Warfarin (Coumadin) is used to prevent blood clotting for those at risk for deep vein thrombosis, stroke, or heart attack. Supplements that can change bleeding time controlled by this drug include flaxseed oil and fish oil supplements, goldenseal, saw palmetto, feverfew, garlic, ginseng, and willow bark, just to name a few.

* Digoxin is another heart medication. Ginseng has been noted to falsely elevate blood digoxin levels. Some herbs that will affect drug effectiveness include senna, licorice, aloe, cascara, hawthorne, foxglove, goldenseal and guar gum.

* Phenytoin is a drug used for seizures. Herbal interactions to be aware of include ginkgo biloba, white willow, lemon balm, skull cap, kava kava, and valerian root, to name a few. It is also important to know that Folate supplementation is necessary with Phenytoin, but excess Folate can be harmful.

* It’s important to take calcium supplements and vitamin D two hours apart from taking either Phenytoin or Digoxin in order to not interfere with these drug’s effects.

Of particular concern are interactions with the herb St. John’s Wort, which is taken by 7.5 million Americans as a depression remedy. This herb can cause serious consequences when taken with drugs such as Prozac, Zoloft, or Paxil, as well as warfarin, cyclosporine, and oral contraceptives. This herb may also interact with Digoxin, chemotherapy drugs, and other drugs, causing treatment failure. Some of these interactions are serious enough that if St. John’s Wort were a drug, the government would restrict marketing, make it a prescription-only item, or require label warnings.

So, what can one do??

Anyone taking a dietary supplement should first do their homework. Know exactly what the purpose of a particular supplement is for and learn all known interactions. There are many excellent informational websites on the internet. A good rule of thumb is to look for a site that does not offer products for sale!

It’s also important to inform your healthcare professional what supplements you are taking, in order to avoid potential supplement-drug interactions that could put you at medical risk. Although many credible professionals sell products, there are just as many who sell products but don’t really understand the physiology of the human body and are just out to make money. Supplement sales is a very popular ‘easy’ way to make money today!

It’s just as important to do one’s homework when looking for a complementary care practitioner. Although this is only one set of criteria, the best recommendation is to look for one or any of these: A pharmacist or registered dietitian who is educated in medicinal herbs, a physician who specializes in functional medicine, or an MD, OD, ND, DC, PharmD or RD who also has the CCN credential.

Don’t be afraid to take supplements. They serve a very beneficial purpose. But do know why you’re taking each supplement, just as you should know why you take any prescription medications. Be an informed consumer and take responsibility for your health and wellbeing.

Why Content is Still King - Effective SEO Tactics

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 1:54 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

It was a year ago that I attended my first search engine strategies conference. It was also at this conference that I became a speaker.

Search Engine Strategies and PubCon are undoubtedly the two largest SEO/SEM conferences out there today so of course there’s huge attendance and lots of big industry names attending.

There’s also a guy there who you may have heard of. His name is Barry Schwartz and he’s from Search Engine Round Table. I bring his name up because he’s found one of the best ways to not only build an ever expanding content base up, but also a way to build quality relevant links. And it’s so simple one begins to wonder why others don’t do it.

Before I get into what he’s doing let me give you a little history. He started covering SES a few shows ago and would post summaries of the various seminars he attended at the SearchEngineWatch forum.

His posts were some of the most read posts during the conference. He soon also began posting longer summaries at his own site. Also very well read by those of us who couldn’t attend the show.

Now he’s become “the” reporter for the SES shows wherever they are. He even went into this one with a plan to cover as many of the sessions as possible, between himself and others known in the SEM industry. Some of the posts end up at the SEW forums but he also posts many on his own site.

Step one - there’s that ongoing content development.

You see, what the folks at SEO roundtable are doing is creating very long, but very detailed summaries of every seminar they attend. They then post these to their website daily or more often. Each post occupies it’s own static page, and most pages are well linked within the site.

Step two - relevant quality links and lots of them

Now here’s the great part. It is because of this coverage that people have come to realize that this site is the site to go to for SES coverage. Between this site and the SEW forums you can pretty much get your fill of SES in a very compact version. (Trust me for some of the sessions, a light summary is much better than sitting through 90 minutes of dry explanations of how ranking algorithms work :) ).

And because people rely on these summaries of the show that they begin to refer others to them. Either through word of mouth or, more importantly, links.

This is where the relevant quality links kick in. What is a link to an SEM site from another SEM site worth? What would you pay to have your competitors link to you with lots of one way links, many from high authority sites? Because of this article, they even have a link from here.

Plus they get links from Searchenginewatch, in both the forums and the blog entries, not to mention other high profile industry sites. What’s link from Matt Cutt’s blog with a photo worth to this site?

You see, this site is building its online reputation the way everyone needs to - by posting relevant timely information that others want to see. Then the others link to that content in a natural way.

Let me put it to you another way - of the over 3,000 links this site has, how many do you suppose are from content? More specifically, how many are due to the site’s summaries of the various SES shows they’ve attended? Links may not be directly to the topics in question. In fact many are not.

In fact, if you scan through the top 100 links or so listed in Google you see a virtual who’s who of the SEO industry. Let me point out a few of the more notable links: Links from Yahoo Search Blog, as well as the MSDN MSN search blog. Of course there’s many from Searchenginewatch, but also from other industry sites like searchviews.com, seomoz.com and searchenginejournal.com just to name a few.

So what has the site accomplished by attending all the SES shows since late 2003? Well, they’ve built lots of good content which helps relay their authority status to engines like Google.

Further, they’ve gotten lots of quality inbound links from high profile related sites that are also considered authorities. Plus they’ve also built a reputation for being the place to go to find out about SES which means increased traffic to the site. Not to mention that they’ve now probably got a well known brand.

In other words, if someone doesn’t already know how to find the site, but they know the name of it, a the person will search on an engine like Google looking for the domain name. Even if it’s ranked #7 or 8 for the search term the site will get the click because the searcher is looking for that brand.

How’s that for building quality content and links at the same time?

How the Bird Flu is Spread

Filed under: Health Parlor — admin at 12:49 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

The bird flu is a very scary and disturbing illness that is becoming worldwide threat. One way to protect us from this horrible disease is to be armed with facts and information that will make us understand it more clearly.

Migrating birds like ducks, geese, and swans can carry and spread the virus to other birds. This can be done across the county borders as well. Some of the migratory birds do not seem to get sick from the bird flu but domestic birds like chickens and turkeys can die from it.
A bird can get bird flu from another bird by coming into contact with its infected feces or saliva. Birds can also get sick if they come into contact with dirt or any other infected surfaces. Some experts think that live bird markets and where birds are kept close together are places where the virus has spread quickly.

If a person does become infected with the H5N1 strain of the bird flu, it is not likely that they will spread it to others. All of the human cases have happened because they got it directly form the infected birds. These people live in rural areas and where families keep poultry that they butcher themselves.

It is important to know how to protect yourself from the bird flu. The best way is to do the same things to protect you from any other virus. No matter where you are living and what your health situation is, you should wash your hands often with antibacterial soap. This is especially true after using the bathroom and cooking meals.

Take the proper safety precautions from the bird flu. Never eat undercooked meat especially poultry. Always wash kitchen surfaces when preparing uncooked meat. Always wash your knives, cutting boards and utensils that touch the uncooked meat. Never mix uncooked meat with vegetables and fruits.

If you plan to visit another country that has an outbreak of this bird flu virus, you should see your physician to see what you can do to protect your body from getting this virus. Stay away from chickens, ducks, geese and any other wild birds. Keep your hands clean and carry hand sanitizers to keep your hands clear from any harmful bacteria.

When you are careful and have the right information about the bird flu, you can protect yourself and be safe. Many new factors are being investigated all the time. There are new developments that are happening all the time regarding the bird flu. It is best not to panic and remember that we are safe and one day there will be a cure for this problem as there has been for many epidemics in the past.

Soul Goals

Filed under: Aid — admin at 1:40 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Last night I was talking with some of my dearest friends about
Manifesting our Dreams through the Power of Goalsetting.

As we were sharing, I explained the way I manifested my current
radio show. It all started when more than 5 years ago I wrote my
100 lifetime goals. Included on the list was my own radio show.
This year, that came to fruition.

I also mentioned adding some distinctly “unbusinessy” goals on
my list. These goals ironically have the power to significantly
impact the bottom line of all my entrepreneurial and personal
growth efforts.

These Goals are what I call my “Soul Goals”.

As I write, I am looking at a simple glass vase on my desk. In
it are three roses and an iris. Just the act of looking at them
makes me smile. In another favorite workspace of mine, the
kitchen table, there is a bouquet of gloriously fragrant huge
deep red roses. Last night I opened the door on my corner
cabinet and the scent of these magnificent flowers hypnotized
me, filling me with wonder.

On the same 100 Lifetime Goals list, I wrote “have fresh flowers
in my office and home at all times”. These delectable floral
arrangements from my own garden are a fulfillment of that goal.
It is an ongoing goal, a soul goal that in turn makes me more
productive in my adventures in business and life.

This weekend I saw many friends I had not seen in a long time.

In many conversations, I included, “Are you able to get away
from your office for lunch during the week? I would love to
invite you tolunch so we can catch up and simply spend time
together.”

Another goal on my list is “Have lunch with one friend weekly”.
This is abare minimum goal. It is also one I have overlooked as
I busily careened down the mompreneur path. Seeing all my
beloved (and neglected) friends this week end reminded me how
important it is to have these regularly scheduled heart
connection times.

Without scheduling, they simply won’t happen!

None of these folks knew about all the current excitement in my
life, nor did I know the excitement in their lives. One of my
friend is having significant challenges with her teen aged son,
another friend is still in the same job she wanted to quit when
we met six years ago.

I look so forward to the get togethers I have scheduled so we
can continue to grow together, much more intentionally than we
have in the recent past.

I won’t be preparing an elegant meal: it will be simple. What I
will prepare is the space in my heart for some special
conversation and laser focus on the people I care about it. The
ones who I have not demonstrated this focus upon lately.

My soul has missed it. And now I am responding at the absolutely
perfect time.

As you look over your goals and intentions, which goals speak to
your soul? Which goals can you look towards which are there
simply to remind you of the connections you have with fellow
travelers on life’s path? Which ones remind you of the beauty
that surrounds you?

If these are absent from your list, what would be the best
solution?

Modify your list and add some Soul Goals.

What will amaze you each time is not only the powerful impact
upon your Soul, you will notice the powerful impact on your work
as well.

Passion Activator: You may be leery of this whole concept of
“Soul Goals”.

There is nothing inherently wrong with your query.

What I would request you do is this: take out your list of goals
or begin creating a list of goals. For each 5 “hard” or
business, career, personal achievement goals, include one “Soul
Goal”.

This way if it is your first attempt at Goal Setting, you will
have a place to start.

Secondly, if you work with a daily “To Do” list (my personal
preference and tool to use is a “Possibility List”) be sure to
use the same ratio. For each 5 “hard” items on the list, include
1 “Soul Item” on your list.

Finally, be lovingly patient and compassionate with yourself.
Change does not occur overnight. It occurs with consistent,
passionate action towards positive change.

Can Chiropractic Treatments Benefit Ironman Athletes?

Filed under: Lots Of Sports Resources — admin at 10:50 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2008

For years chiropractors were seldom given the credit they deserved when it came to improving athletic performance. Now however, its not uncommon at all to see chiropractors treating world class athletes. Several years ago I decided to try chiropractic adjustments because I was developing problem areas from my Ironman Triathlon training. The most bothersome was a constantly sore neck from all the swimming I was doing. Also, I had upper back and shoulder pain from cycling in the profile position.

After making inquiries, I soon had the name of a chiropractic doctor who specialized in treating a wide range of athletes. I remember sitting in his waiting room on the day of my first appointment and seeing autographed pictures on his wall. Pro hockey players, bobsled teams and professional dancers had all been treated by him. It looked like I was in the right place.

After just one treatment I had relief from my neck pain and my next swim was a lot more enjoyable. From what the doctor told me, my spine was out of alignement and he recommended a course of treatment that would keep everything well-adjusted during the Ironman training season.

Note: Most chiropractors will suggest you come in 4 or 5 times a week. Mine did as well, but only for the first 2 weeks so he could get the adjustments to “hold”. It’s not really feasible or necessary to have that many appointments week after week. After 2 weeks we set up a schedule of twice a week. It was perfect. You seldom have to wait and the adjustments themselves only take 10 or 15 minutes. I found the treatments quite affordable as well. Where I live the provincial health plan pays part of the cost and the patient pays the rest.(about $20 per visit). It was one of the best training decisions I ever made and the $160 a month was money well spent.

From that point on, I was a patient until the doctor retired. He used to say he was giving me a competetive edge and I believed him. I had my best Ironman Triathlon result ever the first year Chiroptactic adjustments became part of my training program. It was one of the highlites of my Ironman career when the doctor asked me to autograph a finish line picture for him. From then on it was on the wall between the Olympic bobsled team and the pro hockey player.

I highly recommend you include chiropractic adjustments as part of your training program for your first Ironman Triathlon. At the very least, try a few adjustments and see what they do for you.
